Welcome to Athens!
Check in and freshen up. Take today to travel back in time around our neighborhood and check out those guards in front of the Parliament.
** Today’s big tip: Use your Acropolis combo ticket at the Temple of Zeus after visiting the Old Olympic stadium . You can visit the Temple of Olympian Zeus today on an easy walk around the neighborhood.
If you’re a museum buff, we are on the edge of what I like to call the ”museum campus” – 4 world class museums in a 3 block area.
And if you’ve arrived too late to jump into history today, no worries – we’ll catch you up soon enough!
Dinner on your own??
Depending on the time you came in and what activities you have decided to include in your activities, you may end up having to have dinner on your own.
Which is not such a bad thing since we are giving you a wonderful – easy evening with a wonderful suggestion for dinner.
You will make many people jealous if you post your photos!
The Fun Starts
We are going to fill today with lots of fun, interesting and information, much of which you may not find in guidebooks.
Since it is your first day, and jet lag maybe an issue, we will walk and eat, walk a bit more and eat. In between eating we will tell you stories about the neighborhoods, the streets, the foods and anything else that comes up.
Foodie tour – A Taste of Greece – A move able feast with a sit down lunch
So much good food & so little time!
Nadia will meet you at the apartment and from there you’ll go by car to the market district. I recommend either skipping breakfast all together (if you chose the morning option) or eating a light breakfast (if you chose the afternoon option) :-).
You will be eating a lot today!
This private walking tour designed by your friends at RealGreece.com, takes you on a walk through the flavors of Greece and is definitely amongst our guests’ favorites. Your mid morning tour begins with a traditional Greek snack, spanakopita & tyropita.
Did you ever wonder how the Greeks create those fine sheets of magical dough, the filo dough, used to wrap so many Greek foods? Now is your chance to see it being made, and then you’ll get to sample both a sweet and savory snacks before continuing on through the maze of winding streets in Athens Central market district – stopping along the way to taste a variety of food products from around Greece.
Along the way you will see some of the most wonderful graffiti in Europe. If you were not fond of graffiti until now, this may be the chance you will change your mind.
You’ll have the chance to do a comparison of Greek olive oils, visit some of the city’s oldest & most traditional spice shops, sausage makers & cheese mongers as well as a stop at a Greek vintner’s wine shop where you can sample a variety of grape products unique to Greece. We’ll take a break in our favorite little hidden away “koutouki” or “joint” – a little restaurant that attracts local business people & market people –tucked away on a back street in the bustling market district, you could only find it escorted by one of us … and your meal is definitely your reward for selecting to tour with Real Greece!

Inhabited since pre-history and rich in Mycenean, Classical and Byzantine sites, the Peloponnese is the birthplace of Greek mythology. The north east corner of the peninsula, the Argolis or Argoloid, contains the greatest concentration of ancient sites anywhere in Greece – Corinth, Epidavros, Mycenae, Olympia and Tyrins, amidst a host of smaller sites that dot the landscape. If you’re traveling in the heat of the summer, we have longer days that offer the option of breaking for lunch at the beach. If you’re curious about Greek wine, this route takes you through the Greek Napa Valley, Nemea, where you can opt for a winery visit.
